Hungary Star Barnabas Varga Gives First Update After Serious Head Injury at Euro 2024

Stable in Hospital, Striker Scores Seven Goals in 14 Caps

Conscious and in Stable Condition, Says Hungary

STUTTGART, Germany (AP) — Hungary forward Barnabás Varga has given his first update after suffering a serious head injury at Euro 2024.

Varga was carried off on a stretcher during Hungary's match against Germany on Tuesday after a collision with German defender Antonio Rüdiger. He was taken to hospital and underwent surgery.

On Wednesday, Hungary confirmed that Varga is conscious and in a stable condition. The team said that Varga is "resting comfortably" and is expected to make a full recovery.

Varga has 14 caps for his national team, having made his debut in March 2023. He has scored seven goals for Hungary.

The injury to Varga is a blow to Hungary's hopes of reaching the knockout stages of Euro 2024. The team is currently bottom of Group F, with one point from two games.

Hungary's next match is against Portugal on Saturday. The team will be hoping that Varga will be able to return to action for that game.
