Jerry Westrom Sentenced to Life in Prison for 1993 Murder
Convicted in Late August
Jerry Westrom, 56, was convicted on August 30th of premeditated murder in the 1993 killing of 35-year-old Jeanne Ann Childs. Childs' body was found in a wooded area in Isanti County.
Life Sentence Imposed
On Friday, Westrom was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. This conviction concludes a nearly three-decade-long cold case investigation.
Additional Charges
In addition to first-degree murder, Westrom was also found guilty of intentional second-degree murder and kidnapping. The Hennepin County jury found that he had planned and carried out Childs' murder.
Prior History
Westrom had been previously charged with second-degree murder in Childs' death, but the case was dismissed due to lack of evidence. However, advancements in DNA technology led to his arrest in 2021.
